Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2020 DBX will launch with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine supplied by Mercedes-AMG. The engine makes 542 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission also supplied by Mercedes. Aston claims a zero-to-100-Kph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 281 mph.
A hybrid model will eventually follow, and an all-electric version is expected much further down the road. While the DBX is fundamentally rear-wheel drive, a center transfer case sends torque to the front axle when slippage is detected at the rear, and there is also a limited-slip rear differential. Adaptive dampers and air springs are also standard. Construction is of the same type as other Astons, with bonded aluminum and extrusions. The DBX is not just another pretty face: it can tow 5940 pounds and its roof rack can support up to 220 pounds despite a standard full-length panoramic glass roof.
